A Springfield woman was arraigned on Sunday in the Clark County Municipal Court on charges stemming from a stabbing.

Lauren Mefford, 28, was charged with felonious assault after reportedly stabbing a man over the weekend, according to an affidavit filed in the case.

Officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. on Friday to the 400 block of South Fountain Avenue for the report of a man stabbed in the face, the affidavit stated.

When police arrived, they spoke with the victim outside.

“(The victim) stated that he had been stabbed in the face and appeared to be in distress,” the affidavit stated.

Officers then entered the house and found Mefford sitting on the couch.

“(An officer) placed her in handcuffs and had her sit down on the couch," the affidavit stated. “She stated “I stabbed him in the face” without being asked any questions.”

Police then asked her where the knife was and she told them in her purse, where they found a folding black pocket knife.

Mefford was arrested and taken to the police department where she was placed in jail on one count of felonious assault, the affidavit stated.

She is currently listed as an inmate in the Clark County Jail with a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

This incident remains under investigation.
