Springfield roller skating center to open within weeks

USA Roller Skating Center in Springfield is planning to reopen the last week of September, according to a post on the center’s Facebook page.

“I know it’s been a while since you have seen it! Getting things cleaned up and ready so we can open soon. Planning on opening the last week of September,” the post said.

Rob Patterson, the owner of USA Roller Skating Center located on Valley Loop Road told the News-Sun in June that they decided to wait to reopen due to financial reasons.

“We’re a winter sport, so we save all winter to be able to pay for summer,” Patterson said. “They closed us down right in the middle of prime season - financially we have been using our summer money to support the building.”

The roller skating center has been closed for nearly six months.

After being closed for three months, Patterson said the roller skating center was “probably $55,000 in the the hole.”

“Unfortunately they closed us at the worst time and then they wanted to let us open back up at the worst time," he added.

In the meantime, Patterson said he has cleaned the roller skating center and visited other centers to see what precautions they have taken because of COVID-19.

“It’s probably the cleanest it has ever been just because that’s all we have been doing - just cleaning and trying to figure stuff out,” Patterson said.
