Springfield City Commissioners will be asked to conduct several first readings as well as approve several items during their virtual meeting this afternoon that relates to land, rezoning and the purchasing of new vehicles.

The agenda includes consideration of items involving land at or near Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport.

One is an ordinance that will allow the Springfield City Manager to enter into a cropland lease agreement with Jeremy and Taylor Renner Farm. The ordinance pertains to the leasing of approximately 579.04 acres at and near the airport, in which about 530 acres are tillable farm land.

Similar Cropland Lease Agreement proposals will also be discussed at the meeting and involve Clem Farms LTD, Berner Farms and Clarks Farm Market LLC.

Commissioners will also be asked to approve an ordinance that would rezone 366 Ludlow Avenue. That property is owned by the same owner of Speakeasy Ramen. The plan is to build a carryout only restaurant on 366 Ludlow.

Commissioners will also be asked to authorize the purchase of eight 2021 Ford Police Interceptors from the National Auto Fleet Group as well as five low floor cutaway buses from Transportation Equipment Sales Corporation.

The virtual meeting will be held at 2 p.m. and can be viewed on the city’s YouTube channel. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, in-person attendance is prohibited.

However, residents who wish to participate can do so by contacting Springfield City Clerk Jill Pierce at commission@ springfieldohio.gov or call 937-324-7341 for more information.

Residents may submit questions ahead of time by contacting Pierce and must submit their name and address as well. Questions are to be submitted no later than 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
