Logan County student killed, other seriously injured in weekend crash near De Graff

A Riverside Local School District senior was killed and another was seriously injured in a car crash Saturday morning at the intersection of State Route 47 and County Road 35, according to a Logan County Sheriff’s Office crash report and the school district.

McKinzie Noggler, 17, of Quincy, was in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling north on County Road 35 stopped at the stop sign when she pulled out into the path of a 2019 Kenworth dump truck that was traveling east on State Route 47, the crash report stated.

The truck that was approaching the intersection struck Noggler’s vehicle on the driver’s side, causing her to be trapped. She had to be extricated and was taken by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rulan Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Noggler’s passenger, Brooklyn Jackson, 17, of De Graff, was seriously injured and taken by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital, the crash report stated. There was also a 16-year-old passenger, that was also trapped and had to be extricated, who was seriously injured and taken by Rosewood EMS to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney.

“We are heartbroken [today] as we have lost our senior, McKinzie Noggler, in a car accident. Please keep her loved ones in your prayers,” Riverside Local School District said in a Facebook post on Saturday. “Also pray for our senior, Brooklyn Jackson, for a speedy recovery from her injuries.”

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Noggler, Jackson and the driver of the truck were all wearing their seat belts, and seat belt use for the 16-year-old is unknown, the crash report stated.

Noggler’s car was disabled and heavily damaged, and the dump truck had only minor damage.

The school district held a candlelight vigil on the football field Saturday night for anyone who wanted to participate, and operated on a two-hour delay on Monday. The Logan County Crisis Team was also at the schools to offer support and speak with any students and staff.
