On Sunday morning Feb. 3, Sugarcreek Twp. emergency crews and the state patrol responded to the single-vehicle crash on Wilmington-Dayton Road. Two people were killed in the crash — 23-year-old Menley C. Downs of Waynesville and Bishop’s 5-year-old daughter, Roselynn.

Bishop was driving northbound in a black 2007 Toyota Corolla when the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and struck a stone culvert in a ditch, according to the patrol’s report.

The vehicle was traveling at an estimated speed of 55 mph, which is the speed limit in that section of roadway, according to the patrol’s report.

The patrol report listed marijuana and other drugs as possible factors in the crash.

Results from toxicology tests are still pending, according to Lt. Matt Schmenk, commander of the patrol’s Xenia post. Bishop’s phone is also being looked at to determine a possible cause of the crash, Schmenk said.
