Springfield man dies following weather-related crash in Fayette County

A 51-year-old Springfield man died following a crash that occurred on a rain-slickened road in Union Twp. Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

William Paxson was exiting westbound U.S. 35 on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he was unable to stop as he approached a stop sign at Ohio 753 due to rain covered roads, a release stated.

As a result, Paxson’s motorcycle continued into the path of a Volvo semi-trailer, driven by LeManuel Wright of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Paxson was taken to Fayette County Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Wright claimed no injuries and remained at the scene.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Northbound lanes of Ohio 753 were closed a short time to conduct the crash investigation.
