Looking back in Springfield: peek inside a 1900s grocery store

Edward L. Monger, a former machinist who came to Ohio from Indiana in the 1880s, opened a grocery store in Tremont in the early 1900s. The interior of the store is shown here around 1910 when a young Earl R. McKinley was the clerk. McKinley later went on to work at one of the many Kroger s bakery and groceries in Springfield and Edward Monger moved to New Carlisle where he opened Monger s Grocery on Main Street.
