Ohio’s Rose Laws, passed in 1908, let counties vote individually about allowing alcohol sales.

Clark County was one of thirty-five to go dry by 1909, which meant saloons across the county shuttered their doors.

This particular saloon on Fountain, one of many on the street closed by the local vote, is shown here in August advertising upcoming events including Barnum and Bailey, a “Mammoth Show” at the new Sun vaudeville theater, and Labor Day celebrations.
