It began under the operation of the YMCA with a book trailer that was towed behind a Model A Ford and had an awning to protect patrons from the elements.
In 1937, it graduated to a uniquely designed truck with fold up sides that could hold 3,000 volumes and was featured in New York’s Daily Worker as a “W.P.A. Library on Wheels,” that served many during the Depression. This photo shows a walk-in Bookmobile in 1941.
