UPDATE @ 2:55 p.m.:
A couple acres of cornfield that caught fire on Old Springfield Road is now under control.
Crews from Hustead, Springfield Twp., Madison Twp., Pitchin and Harmony Twp. all responded with brush trucks to help battle the fire.
An estimated 15 to 20 acres of corn burned, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire seems to have started with a harvest machine that ignited the corn due to the warm conditions.
Crews filled up their brush trucks at the road, which is about 200 to 300 yards away, then went back out to put the fire out.
Old Springfield Road is blocked in both directions while crews handle the fire.
A cornfield fire has been reported at 7400 Old Springfield Road.
Crews from multiple jurisdictions responded to the fire around 1:40 p.m.
Emergency reports indicate the fire is a several hundred yards off the road, which is also shut down.
We have a crew on the way and will update this page when information becomes available.
