Two people were taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hosptial this morning after a head-on crash.
Shortly before 8 a.m. today, two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed crashed head-on in the 3500 block of Ohio 54 in Urbana Twp., officials said.
The female driver of a black Toyota hit the steering wheel with enough force that her body bent the steering wheel, despite the vehicle’s air bag deploying, officials said. The male driver of the second car involved was able to get out of his vehicle on his own, and bystanders pulled the female driver out out of her vehicle.
Both were taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries, officials said.
The roadway was shut down for about 90 minutes while crews investigated and cleaned up the crash.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, and further details are expected to be released today. It’s unknown who was at fault. The road is two lanes, and the crash occurred in a no passing zone.
