Firefighter adopts dog he helped rescue at Clifton Gorge

UPDATE @ 11:35 a.m. July 25

A firefighter’s family has adopted the dog rescued from Clifton Gorge earlier this month.

Chester is now part of the Wendt family living in Springfield and including Firefighter-EMT Alex Wendt of the Miami Twp. Fire-Rescue in Yellow Springs, Greene County.

Wendt was part of the team that rescued Chester from the gorge on July 12.

Chester will join Alex, wife Cait and the family’s dog, Sarge.

“We’re just very happy that someone is able to give that dog a permanent home. It’s nice to keep him in the family,” Chief Colin Altman said this morning.

Alex Wendt had been trying to adopt Chester “kind of from Day One,” Altman said.

“The two dogs got along,” Altman said.
