Dayton airport construction begins second phase of $25M project

The Dayton International Airport is moving into its second phase of a more than $25 million terminal renovation project as it debuts a new look and seating.

The first phase added a full glass and steel exterior with a glass canopy to bring more natural light into the terminal, a statement said. Travelers will also find a wider TSA exit lane, new restrooms and a previously reported new USO space.

“We are excited to be able to showcase this project to the public in stages,” said Terry Slaybaugh, director of the airport. “Unveiling the new area next to the current gives a dramatic perspective of the progress we’ve made for this entire project.”

The same type of construction is now continuing to the center of the terminal, but the baggage claim door by the south entrance will remain open along with the valet and taxi areas outside of that door.

The airport will also add new terrazzo ceilings and floors in the evenings during this phase, which will last about three and a half months, Slaybaugh said.

A third phase on the south end will start after the second is finished, wrapping up terminal construction in October 2019.
