Woman injured in mower accident still in critical condition

An 84-year-old woman who lost part of her leg in a lawn mower accident Saturday, June 26, remained in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton on Monday evening.

The incident occurred at 4895 Old Mill Road when Mary Gipson was pulled underneath a Bush Hog mower. She was flown in critical condition to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by CareFlight, said Chief Heather Kaufman of the Hustead EMS Department.

The woman’s son, David Gipson, was riding the mower about 6:15 p.m. Saturday when she brought him water, Kaufman said.

According to a Clark County Sheriff’s Office report, “She leaned on the rear tractor tire for balance. Mr. Gipson moved the gear shifter into gear, but kept his foot on the clutch. However, the tractor lunged forward causing her to lose her balance and fall under the mower. The blades were still activated at this time and the injury was sustained.”
