A Springfield woman was arrested on a child endangering charge this week after a 21-month-old boy was found wandering alone outside in 24 degree weather.
Kristina R. Burk, 26, pleaded not guilty in Clark County Municipal Court on Monday and was released on her own recognizance.
Witnesses flagged down police near the corner of West Columbia and North Race streets about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. They had found a small child wearing a thin, long-sleeved shirt and pants, but allegedly no shoes or socks in the cold.
Burk ran outside about 15 minutes later, according to court records. She allegedly told police she had worked a third shift and came home at 7 a.m., then stayed up all day watching her children.
She told police she allegedly went to bed with her two children but discovered her 21-month-old son was missing when she woke up, according to court records. Burk told police she found the baby gate knocked over and the back door of her home open.
