Springfield police respond to naked man waving knife in house

Police: Burglary of Springfield Cashland caught on camera

Springfield police began their investigation when they were called to a home on the 100 block of Southern Avenue for a report of a naked man holding a knife inside a home.

“While officers were heading to the call, dispatch advised the suspect pushed in the front window on the home and busted the glass to gain access to the home,” an affidavit filed with the charges says. “Dispatch also advised there were small children in the home.”

When officers arrived, they found Walden standing in the living room of the house with a victim who was known to him and who was screaming for help, according to the affidavit. The affidavit also notes that the officers did see the small children inside.

“Officers approached the front porch, where we made contact with Mr. Walden, who was approaching (the victim) with a closed fist yelling ‘Did you call the cops on me, I’m not going back to jail.’” the affidavit says.

The affidavit said it was then that police intervened.

“After struggling with Mr. Walden for several minutes to place him in handcuffs, officers finally were able to detain Mr. Walden. Mr. Walden was transported to the patrol van, where it took several officers to place him in the rear of the van.”

The affidavit says officers did find evidence of the knife, and they took photos of a broken front window.

“(The victim) said that Mr. Walden doesn’t live there and was not welcomed at her house,” the affidavit says. “(The victim) said he forced himself into her home.”

While at the jail, Walden refused to give officers a DNA sample and therefore was charged with obstructing official business, according to the affidavit.
