The most recent shooting occurred Monday night at about 8:15 p.m. Police found Cameron Ramey, 18, of Springfield, shot next to a car on Lowry Avenue, according to a Springfield Police Division report. Ramey had a visible gunshot wound to the head, police said.
He was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center and then taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by CareFlight medical helicopter. As of Tuesday afternoon, Ramey’s condition was considered non-life-threatening, Moody said.
Detectives were able to briefly interview Ramey Monday night after the shooting, Moody said, but no further details into the investigation were released.
Ramey is a student enrolled at Cliff Park High School in Springfield. When classes resumed Tuesday, counseling was available for students who needed to speak to someone about Ramey’s shooting, said Principal Karl Perkins. The school had also been in contact with Ramey’s family to offer support, he said.
Investigations continued into three other shootings that happened Sunday, with the first of the three reported just before 2 p.m. when officers were dispatched to Davey Moore Park, 600 S. Western Ave. There they located Aaron Howard, 30, of Springfield who had been shot twice — once in his left side and a second in the center of his back, just missing his spinal area, according to the police report.
Officers attempted to question Howard but he “would not cooperate when asked details of the shooting,” according to the report. He would not tell police who shot him or why he was shot, police said.
Just a few hours later, around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, officers were sent to the intersection of Linden Avenue and East Euclid Avenue and found 23-year-old Emmanuel Crossley of Springfield had been shot in the leg, according to a police report. Crossley told investigators he was walking alone on East Euclid Avenue when a dark-colored Chevy SUV drove by and fired seven to 10 shots, police said. Crossley could not provide any information about possible suspects because he said the windows of the vehicle were tinted, the report said.
He was taken to SRMC for treatment of one gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
Also, a Dayton man told police he was shot in Springfield around the same time Crossley was fired upon, according to a police report on the incident. Police were sent to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton to investigate a man who had shown up to be treated for a gunshot wound. The victim, 23-year-old Davion Mapp of Dayton, told police he was in Springfield when he was shot, according to the report.
Mapp could not provide police with a location of the shooting or any other details about the incident, according to the report, and he said he was intoxicated and could not remember anything.
