Employees of a Springfield towing and recovery company say they were shot at when they attempted to repossess a truck.
Springfield police were dispatched around 2 p.m. Monday to West Pleasant Street in reference to shots fired, according to a Springfield police report.
“Officers were advised that employees from Buckeye Towing and Recovery were trying to repossess a vehicle,” the report says. The men told police that shots were fired at them.
The employees said they were in the area of Delta Road and Sunset Avenue when their plate scanner hit on a white Dodge truck. The two followed the truck to a house on West Clark Street, according to the report.
“(The victim) advised that the driver and front seat passenger exited the vehicle,” the affidavit says. “He then advised that an older male came outside of the house with a shotgun …”
The men said they were fired at twice, the report says.
“He advised that the vehicle wasn’t struck,” the report says. “(The driver) advised that he drove in reverse down the street before turning around and leaving the area.”
The men said they fled the area and tried to hide on South William Street where they parked behind another vehicle.
“He advised that he shut all the lights off on the vehicle,” the report says. “(One man) advised that the white truck pulled very close behind them and fired two more shots. He advised that he didn’t see who was shooting at this time.”
The victims said at this time the person in the white Dodge left and they were able to flag down a Springfield police officer.
Officers were unable to locate evidence of the shooting, the report says, but they did take photos of where the alleged shooting took place.
“We have no suspect information at the time of this report,” the report says.
