Borton was driving southbound on Ohio 4 when he drove off the left side of the roadway into the median and struck a guardrail. The vehicle continued on the median where it struck the overpass, overturned and landed onto Lower Valley Pike below the overpass, witnesses told troopers.
“When we arrived the car was on all four wheels,” said Sgt. Merrill Thompson of the Springfield post.
The driver wasn’t wearing his seat belt and no one was else was in the vehicle, according to the news release.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Bethel Twp. Fire and EMS and the Clark County Coroner’s Office all responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation. It’s the 17th fatal crash in Clark County this year. More than 720 fatal crashes have occurred in Ohio so far this year.
Borton’s father, Brian Borton, is the pastoral care minister at First Christian Church in Springfield.
Paul Slagle, director of administration at the church, called the crash a tragedy.
“Our hearts go out to them,” Slagle said.
