Man suffers gunshot wound in parking lot of Springfield bar

A Springfield man shot in the back in the parking lot of a local bar was transported by medical helicopter early Thursday morning.

Springfield police officers were sent to the Wagon Wheel, 1005 S. Burnett Road, at 1:37 a.m. today on a report of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, officers found Zachary A. Foulke, 28, of Springfield, lying in the fetal position on the bar’s floor with a gunshot wound to the left side of his back, according to a police report.

He told officers he was pistol whipped by two black men who then shot him in the back. Foulke then ran back into the bar.

Officers then searched the area near the victim’s truck in the parking lot. They allegedly found both a scale with white powder residue on it and a shell casing lying on the ground near the driver’s side door, the report said.

The victim was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center before being sent to Miami Valley by helicopter.

No suspects have been identified at this time, police said.
