Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Douglas Avenue, just before 10:20 p.m. Thursday on reports of a person shot inside a vehicle.
Dispatchers said the victim, only identified as a man, was sitting inside a vehicle when another vehicle pulled alongside his and began firing shots. The man sustained at least one gunshot wound, and the vehicle was hit several times.
The victim was transported first to Springfield Regional Medical Center, before being transferred to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. His condition is unknown, but police said he was alert and talking with investigators on the way to the hospital.
Police did not release a suspect or suspect vehicle description involved in the incident.
UPDATE @ 11:20 p.m.: Witnesses say the shooting that occurred in the 100 block of North Douglas Avenue may have been a drive-by.
There is a vehicle on scene that has two bullet holes in a front door and a one in a window, all on the driver’s side. There are shell casings on the ground near the vehicle.
Springfield police detectives are arriving. There has been no word about the victim or that person’s condition.
UPDATE @ 10:33 p.m.: Police are on scene, in the 100 block of North Douglas Avenue, Springfield Lt. Michael Kranz said.
The incident was dispatched about 10:20 p.m. There are no details yet as the investigation is just beginning.

Springfield police are investigating a shooting that has occurred within the last 10 minutes.
We’re hearing that CareFlight has been dispatched and that police are looking for a silver car, last seen in the area of East Main Street, that could be connected to the incident.
