He was indicted for one count of rape, five counts of sexual battery and one count of attempted sexual battery.
Shook is suspected of having inappropriate relationships with students, and law enforcement officials believe not all victims have come forward. He has been on administrative leave since the investigation began, according to reports.
Unrelated to the criminal indictment, Riverside school officials put Shook on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into alleged misconduct by the teacher.
In Shook’s personnel file, school officials cite incidents that occurred Feb. 1, in which Shook allegedly spanked a female student, and in a separate incident, took off his pants, revealing a Speedo swimsuit underneath, as part of a lesson in gym class.
Shook’s personnel file also contains a Feb. 15 letter from him that’s addressed to “whom it may concern.” In it, Shook acknowledges that his approach of engaging students in unconventional ways, including spanking students on their birthdays, is inappropriate.
“My enthusiasm for unique approaches to reaching young adults has created an unnecessary distraction from their accomplishments and the efforts of the district to properly educate students,” Shook wrote.
Shook is being held in the Logan County Jail and is expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
