2 dead after Springfield shooting

SPRINGFIELD — Two men are confirmed dead after a shooting at the intersection of West Perrin Avenue and South Center Street in Springfield late Sunday afternoon.

A 28-year-old victim died at the scene between two houses. The second victim, a 27-year-old, died after being taken by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Sgt. Scott Woodruff of the Springfield Police Division said.

The 27-year-old was found in the yard of 104 W. Perrin Ave. Woodruff said the home is involved in the case, but how was still under investigation and he declined to release any further information.

Woodruff confirmed police are looking for at least one shooter in the double homicide.

The Clark County Coronor’s office will be investigating the men’s death. Woodruff said the bodies will be transported to the Montgomery County Coronor’s office for autopsies.

Richard Cochenour, who lives on West Perrin Avenue, said he was driving home from the grocery store and noticed four to six young men hanging out at 104 W. Perrin Ave.

He didn’t think anything of it until he heard a verbal argument coming from there, then heard the shots fired, prompting him to call 911.

Springfield police were still on the scene late Sunday night and were releasing no further information.
