A local public defender accused of engaging in a sex act with another man at a Clark County park has pleaded guilty to one count of public indecency.

Ronald Morris was arrested in September after he was found with another man, Jeffrey Edwards, off a trail in Buck Creek State Park engaging in a sex act, according to an Ohio Department of Natural Resources officer’s report.

Morris was employed by the Clark County Public Defender’s office at the time of his arrest. He made nearly $85,000 as a public defender last year.

The Clark County Public Defender’s Office and the Clark County Human Resources Department didn’t return calls Tuesday requesting information about his current employment status.

Morris plead guilty to one count of public indecency last month and had two other counts of the same charge dismissed. He was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay a $100 fine and court costs. He is temporarily banned from the park as well.

Edwards also pleaded guilty to a charge of public indecency and was sentenced to similar sanctions.

Neither Morris nor his defense attorney, Richard Mayhall, could be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Morris and Edwards were arrested after an officer noticed two men walking into a wooded area together.

“That area of the park is known for public indecency,” the report states.

The officer walked toward the trail that he’d seen the men on, looked through his binoculars and observed Edwards performing a sex act on Morris. When the officer approached the men, Edwards initially attempted to walk away, and when he was ordered not to move, he tried to approach the officer.

The man eventually complied and both were arrested.
