A Bellefontaine area man arrested for allegedly raping a 4-year-old Indian Lake area girl has been indicted on two counts of first-degree felony rape and one count of third-degree felony gross sexual imposition. If found guilty, he could face life in prison.
Joe P. Hatfield, 41, of 1000 Garfield Ave. in Bellefontaine, was arrested Dec. 17 following an investigation by the Logan County Sheriff's Office and Logan County Children's Services that dates back to August. Children's services received a complaint that the girl was being abused. Hatfield reportedly shared a home with the child at the time of the abuse, according to reports. He was arrested during a traffic stop by the sheriff's office.
He will be arraigned on the charges Friday at 2:30 p.m.
