Arson suspected in Springfield car fire

Springfield police and Springfield fire/rescue are investigating a car fire.

Springfield police responded to the scene Tuesday at around 3:30 a.m. as the fire division was putting out the flames, a police report says.

“It appears an unknown suspect took a large rock that was laying at the rear of the vehicle throwing it through the back window of the vehicle,” the report says. “After breaking the window, the suspect started a fire in the rear seating area of the vehicle.”

The fire caused damage to the interior, the report says.

The owner of the car was sleeping when the fire was started, according to the report, and didn’t see anyone around the car when she noticed the fire.

No arrest has been made in the case, the report says.
