The Clark-Shawnee school board will hold an emergency special board meeting today to discuss what should be done about a ‘significant’ structural problem found in one of the district’s buildings earlier this week.

Staff discovered fallen ceiling tiles and a structural issue of a bowing wooden beam in the Reid Elementary School library on Wednesday, according to Superintendent Brian Kuhn.

The board will discuss “a resolution of urgent necessity for repairs at Reid School, discussion and public action to establish and appropriate funds, and discussion and public action related to a continuity of operations plan,’' according to the meeting announcement.

The virtual meeting will begin at 2 p.m. and can be accessed on the district’s website or at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85448236004?pwd=R3VLcG80Wjd1akxJT3RRVVI0bUtJQT09

The structural problem forced school officials to close the building and place students - none of whom were attending in-person classes Wednesday - on remote learning through the end of this week.

“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will transition to online learning to ensure their safety while our staff and repair companies further examine the issue,” he said.
