“I truly believe this is part of the Christmas spirit and really the true Christmas spirit,” she said. “It’s a beautiful thing because people are giving back and creating the unity that is inspired by Christmas.”

Volunteers began arriving at the German Twp. Fire Department at about 8:30 a.m. and volunteered until around noon. Firefighters prepared the meals and bagged them and volunteers were sent off to homes to deliver.
Nelly Davis was one of the residents who got a meal Tuesday morning. She said the fire department has helped her in the past and she appreciates them.
“They are guys that have separated from their wives to help others out,” Davis said. “When there is a wreck or a fire or anything like that they are here on the job. I pray for them when I hear the sirens go out. I know what they are doing. They could be sacrificing their lives for others.”
Davis said she doesn’t have a lot of family and the meals are important to her during the holiday.
Jennifer Holman is the daughter of fire chief Tim Holman and the late Becky Holman. She said her mother began the tradition and when she died it became a legacy event for her.
Jennifer Holman said the community has always been willing to help.

“It’s just our way to give back to the community and kind of help them out on Christmas,” Jennifer Holman said. “It was my mom’s idea when she started this, she always thought no one should be alone on Christmas eating Raman noodles. Everyone should have a good home cook meal and company. So our volunteers also wish them a Merry Christmas and give them a little bit of fellowship.”
The event has grown from about 30 meals being delivered in 2009 to hundreds of them going out this year, she said.
