‘Hiring Our Heroes’ career and hiring event comes to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Hope Hotel

Veterans, military spouses and active-duty personnel transitioning to civilian life, take heed: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program is holding a hiring event at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s Hope Hotel April 27.

The event will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day at the Hope Hotel just outside Gate 12A near Air Force Materiel Command headquarters.

“Hiring Our Heroes” career fairs connect service members, military spouses and veterans to businesses looking for qualified job candidates.

Fifty-one employers are approved to participate, said Crystal Kearns, the foundation’s director of events and engagement.

The event is open to the military community — veterans, military spouses, caregivers for wounded veterans, those in the service now contemplating a transition to civilian life and anyone with a connection to the military, Kearns said.

“Everybody and anybody — as long as you’re military-connected, we’d love to have you,” she said.

Participating employers are ready to hire, she added. “They know when they get military talent, they are getting top talent.”

Nearly 5,500 people attended 27 in-person hiring events last year across 18 states, according to the chamber. More than 2,800 job offers were extended.

Retired Army Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell, former senior enlisted adviser to the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, is scheduled to be at the event. Col. Charles Barkhurst, 88th Air Base Wing vice commander, is scheduled to provide opening remarks.
