Raise a glass for the return of a popular fundraiser with a new nonprofit affiliation.
The Springfield Arts Council Wine Tasting will offer about 70 different wines along with appetizers at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Buckeye Sports Lodge, 126 W. High St.
Admission includes six tastings of your choice along with foods from Buckeye Sports Lodge, Los Mariachis and Young’s Jersey Dairy and entry in a raffle for a selected wine.
Local musician Patrick Dawson will perform live original and cover songs.
”We wanted to do an event complementing our others events but different,” said Sarah V. Michelson, development director for the Arts Council. “Wine is popular at other events and we thought it would be a good night and time for this, kind of a last hurrah before the holidays showcasing wine and the Arts Council.”
The roots of the wine tasting came with a former Red Cross fundraiser. That signature event started in 2009 and was annual through 2014 at the Westcott House then in 2010 at the Buckeye, so there’s continuity, only with a new nonprofit.
Doug Hill of Heidelberg Distributing, which is providing the wines, wanted to help continue this and reached out to the Arts Council, which was receptive.
What was important was the money raised will stay local and put to a good local cause,” said Eric Sirons, a longtime intermediary of the wine tasting. “We’re delighted the Arts Council is doing it.”
Proceeds will go to the Arts Council’s Summer Arts Festival. The event is sponsored by Ohio Valley Surgical Hospital.
Sirons agreed the timing made it successful along with being a fun, casual event that is very relaxing the people have responded to.
There will also be a short live auction for upscale wines.
