2. How should owners respond?
If you receive a letter from Ford or a dealer telling you your vehicle is affected, get the repair done. It should not cost you anything but time.
Ford says dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt on the vehicle with a longer bolt with “more robust thread engagement” and a larger nylon patch placed for greater torque — for free.

3. Do I have to wait for a recall letter?
No. You can call your dealer any time. But it may take time for Ford to send components and instructions to dealers.
If you fear you’re having problems with your vehicle, be aggressive about pursuing a fix. Ford said it is aware of two accidents and one injury related to the steering wheel problem.
4. Are there other recalls to be aware of?
Recalls are issued pretty regularly. You can check www.safercar.gov for updates on an array of recalls. You can also enter your vehicle's identification number for information on your individual car or truck.
5. So is my steering wheel going to fall off?
Recalls do not mean that every vehicle will have a specific problem. Remember, of 1.3 million recalled vehicles, Ford says it is aware of two accidents.
