Hot Head Burritos plans presence in Springfield

Chain will open first store here in summer.

SPRINGFIELD — Hot Head Burritos will bring 15 jobs to the Moorefield Square Shopping Center in Springfield in late June or early July and tenatively plans to open more stores in the area, according to owner Ray Wiley.

The Kettering-based burrito restaurant will move into the former location occupied by Kentucky Fried Chicken at 2953 Derr Road.

“I think we’ll do great,” Wiley said. “I think we’ve got a great location there. It’s a good population over there.”

They hope to open in 10 weeks.

The Derr Road location will have a drive-through window, only the second location to have one.

“It’s one of the stores we’ll be experimenting with,” Wiley said.

Horton Hobbs, Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce vice president, said he’s excited to see not just the job growth, but also more options for fast-food consumers in Springfield.

“It appeals to multiple generations, but seems focused on a younger generation, which is good for our community,” Hobbs said.

Wiley said the business has tentative plans to open a store on the east end of Springfield, and may expand further in the future.

Hobbs said the addition of Hot Head to Derr Road shows there’s stability in the area. “It’s good when you see a business go out to have another one come in,” he said.

Wiley said the company is rapidly expanding, opening a new store every two weeks.

Hot Head Burritos currently has 28 stores and plans to have 50 corporate- and franchise-owned locations by the end of the year. The Springfield location will be corporate-owned by the Wiley family.

They’re currently in three states, including Pennsylvania and Kentucky, and will be opening stores in two more states, Indiana and Tennessee, by the end of the year. They’re hoping to expand into Texas, Florida, Alabama, Michigan and North Carolina.
