Threat for showers, storms today through Independence Day weekend

Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some strong to severe, will be possible through the Independence Day weekend, with smoke and haze from Canadian wildfires improving under increased winds and rain.

The high temperature reached 87 degrees today in Dayton, 86 in Cincinnati and 85 in Columbus, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening, which will have areas of smoke from the wildfires. Overnight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 69 degrees.

On Friday there is a chance for showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9 a.m. It will be hot and humid Friday with the “feels like” temperature for Friday afternoon above 100 degrees for some in the region, the NWS said.

Skies will be partly sunny with a high near 90 degrees.

A chance for showers and storms continues Friday night into the overnight hours. It will be mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 70 degrees.

It also is shaping up to be a soggy weekend as well, with rain chances extending into the first part of next week, including the Fourth of July holiday.

Independence Day will by mostly sunny with a high near 85 degrees. There is a chance of showers but Tuesday night will be mostly clear with an overnight low around 65 degrees.
