In Clark County, a Northwestern Local Schools bus slid off the road in German Twp. No one was injured.
The incident occurred about 7 a.m. near the intersection of Cardinal and Skylark roads, said Jesse Steiner, superintendent for the district.
“It was back in a hilly neighborhood and everyone is fine,” Steiner said. “I personally went out there. I got on the bus and the kids were joking and laughing.”
Northwestern didn’t cancel or delay school Tuesday. Steiner said he drove throughout the district Tuesday morning and said the township and county did a good job of making sure roads were safe. At the time, he said, the roads were in good shape. But the area where the slide-off occurred was in a hilly area where the roads were in slightly worse condition.
Morning snow showers are possible today with light accumulation, but activity will be a hit or miss across the northern Miami Valley. Cold air will continue to build into the area, so the morning commute will stay slick because of refreeze issues, StormCenter 7 Meteorologist Carrieann Marit said.
“Blowing and drifting snow will be an issue over the next several days,” Marit said. “The snow that fell Tuesday was a fluffy snow, which means it will blow across roads easily. Areas that were once cleared and treated by road crews could be slick or snow-covered even without any new snow falling.”
Temperatures will remain in the mid-teens to start the day, so lingering slick spots will be possible. It will be mostly cloudy with the best chance for any lingering snow across the far northeastern counties up toward Logan County.
The highs will be chilly with temperatures reaching around 20. Temperatures will drop to the upper single digits overnight.
On Thursday, wind chills will be below zero to start the day, and lingering slick spots will be possible. Clouds will break, with a few flurries and highs in the low 20s.
On Friday, another round of light snow is possible through the day. The highs will still be below normal in the mid-20s.
On Saturday, it will be cold and windy, with highs in the upper teens. A few flurries are possible with mostly cloudy skies.
