Fall starts this week: Temps to drop from 89 to 43 in a day and a half

Cold fronts moving in this week will bring cooler temperatures and chances of patchy rain showers with thunderstorms.

The first week of fall also will include a significant drop in temperatures with a predicted swing of 46 degrees from one day’s high to the low just a short time later.

A cold front that brought some showers this morning could bring more this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Today will include cloudy skies with high temperatures in the low 80s.

Dry conditions return tonight. It will be partly cloudy with a low temperature of 60 degrees.

Lingering moisture in the air could result in a foggy start to Tuesday, but any fog is expected to dissipate by the mid to late morning.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-80s. The overnight low will be considerably cooler with temperatures falling in the upper-60s. The nighttime involves mostly clear and dry conditions.

Wednesday brings another chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and night, but moments of sunshine are expected for the last day of summer. The high will be near 90 degrees.

While Wednesday night may be mostly cloudy, a chance of rain showers and thunderstorms may be possible overnight.

The low will drop to 58 degrees.

Thursday sees seasonably cooler temperatures with a high of 68 degrees for the first day of autumn. Conditions will be relatively sunny and dry throughout the day.

Thursday night will be mostly clear and even cooler with temperatures dropping to the low to mid-40′s.

Friday sees bright sunshine and cool temperatures, including a high of 66.
