Freezing Friday with possible subzero wind chills; warmer weather this weekend

Brief warm-up, rainy weather expected for weekend

Friday will be chilly with freezing temperatures and wind chills below zero, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

Clouds will decrease as the day goes on, and temperatures will rise slightly, but with highs reaching the teens to low 20s. Meanwhile, light winds will bring wind chills in the low-to-mid teens.

Temperatures will fall again to a low around 10 degrees tonight, though winds will be lighter and keep wind chills just above zero degrees.

After a frigid Friday, temperatures will rise higher on Saturday, with highs near 39 degrees. It will be breezy so temperatures will still feel like they are below freezing.

Clouds will increase again Saturday evening and overnight, with a chance of rain starting shortly after dark. Rain chances will continue to rise, making showers likely a few hours before midnight.

Showers will continue through the night, which will have an overnight low around 36 degrees. There will be a chance of rain through dawn on Sunday.

The NWS forecast a chance of rain for much of the day on Sunday before trailing off in the afternoon. Clouds will decrease as rain chances fall, and continue to decrease until around midnight, when there will be mostly clear skies.

Highs on Sunday will be around 42 degrees, and lows will drop down again to around 15 degrees.
