Dayton set a rainfall record so far, with 1.37 inches recorded. This breaks the old record of 0.84 inch set in 1975, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain was expected, with locally higher amounts possible through late tonight.

Forecasters also are keeping an eye on a system Thursday that could bring a potential “significant accumulations of wintry precipitation,” the NWS said.
Today’s high will be near 66 degrees.
Tonight there will be a chance of showers, mainly before 10 p.m. Skies will be cloudy with an overnight low below freezing, around 30 degrees.

After the warm, rainy Tuesday, Wednesday will will be dry and partly sunny but cold with a high near 39 degrees.
Snow is expected to arrive early Thursday, mainly after 3 a.m., with accumulation of less than a half inch possible before daybreak.
Snow chances are expected to continue until 11 a.m. Thursday, followed by a chance of freezing rain between 11 a.m. and noon, then rain likely after noon, the NWS said. It will be cloudy with the high temperature near 36 degrees. Little or no ice accumulation is expected but new snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Sleet could be heavy at times overnight, which will have a low around 26 degrees.
Rain, freezing rain and sleet is possible before 2 a.m., then sleet, possibly mixed with snow and freezing rain, between 2 and 3 a.m., followed by freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow, after 3 a.m. New ice accumulation of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch is possible, and new snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
There will be a chance of snow after dark Wednesday as temperatures fall to a low around 28 degrees. Snow will be likely starting around midnight, mixing with freezing rain as it gets closer to dawn Thursday.
Freezing rain, possibly mixed with snow from the back end of the system is possible before 7 a.m. Friday. Otherwise, it will be drier with mostly cloudy skies, although it will still be cold with a high around 32 degrees.
