Cold start today; Milder temperatures on their way

A man is seen from above as he shovels snow off the sidewalk along Jefferson Street Friday.

A cold start today will give away to milder temperatures ahead of a mid-week warm up.

It will also be freezing cold to begin with, warming from overnight lows around 9 degrees to a high around 38 degrees during the day, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Temperatures will only falling a little overnight to a low around 32 degrees.

Today will start out mostly cloudy then decrease throughout the day, only to rebound overnight.

Temperatures will be warmer than normal on Wednesday, with highs around 43 degrees.

Skies will be partly sunny.

Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy, and lows will dip back below freezing to around 28 degrees.

It will be mostly cloudy on Thursday as temperatures peak around 35 degrees, though skies are expected to mostly clear overnight. Lows will be around 21 degrees.

Friday temperatures will climb even higher, with a peak ranging from the lower 40s in the north to the lower 50s in the south.
