Longtime Shawnee boys golf coach and assistant boys basketball coach Steve Tincher was approved by the Clark-Shawnee Local School Board last month to succeed Isaac as Shawnee’s AD.
“It was an end goal of mine when I started at Shawnee,” said Tincher, 47 and a 1985 Shawnee graduate. “Being in sports all my life, I loved the athletic part of it. I wasn’t ready years ago, but I’m ready now to step into the position.”
Isaac, 42, is a Southeastern grad. He was Shawnee’s AD the last four years.
“I bleed red and gray (Southeastern’s colors),” said Isaacs, who succeeds Tim Bell as the Trojans AD. “I want nothing more than to give back to the community that has supported me all these years. This is where I want to finish my career.”
Tincher also will have some assistant principal duties. His former Braves golf assistant Charles Mowell has since been promoted to the boys head golf coach.
Tincher also has given up his position as a boys basketball assistant that he had for the last 11 seasons. He taught math at the high school the last 15 years before giving it up for administration with this job switch.
Tincher said Shawnee has enjoyed a surge in athletic success the last five-six years. The football team under head coach Rick Meeks was a state runner-up in 2011 and the softball team, coached by Chris Roberts, advanced to a regional final last spring.
Winning Central Buckeye Conference titles remains the No. 1 goal, but competing at the district, regional and state levels also are the norm now for many Braves teams, he said.
“We’ve had some great runs,” Tincher said.
“(We have) a phenomenal coaching staff overall. I don’t have to come in and hire four-five new head coaches. I just need to help them keep doing the job that they’re doing. That makes it a lot easier when you don’t have to come in and change things.”
Isaac also said that he’ll be an assistant football coach for Southeastern head coach Greg Bonifay. He previously was Shawnee’s head baseball coach. The Trojansare members of the Ohio Heritage Conference.
