BLUNT, Jay Gregory

70 of Dayton, formerly Jersey City passed away Thursday,

December 13, 2020, at Kettering Hospital after a brief

illness. He was born June 14th 1950, in Philadelphia and he and his family settled in

Dayton in 1991. As a teenager Jay was active in the civil rights movement and youth church group, attending events where Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were featured speakers. Immediately after high school graduation Jay enlisted to fight for his country by joining the U.S. Marines where he served in the Vietnam War. After returning home from the war Jay, married the love of his life, Yvonne (Pressley) and established a military career at several military hospitals across the

country and retired from his service at the Dayton VA Hospital. Jay and his wife received honors for their service in AmeriCorps Dayton, empowering economically disadvantaged families to find affordable housing, healthcare, adult literacy and organizing after school activities for local youth. Jay loved to laugh and most of all spend time with his family and grandchildren. An avid fan of action, Star Wars and Star Trek

movies, he leaves many to cherish his smile and zest for life. Preceding him in death were his parents, James Russell and Alice Louise; his wife, Yvonne (Pressley). He is survived by three sons, David, Jayson (Charmaine) and Gregory. Brothers Chris (Marsha), Basim (Toylyn) and Michael (Lisa) and sister Avril (Berkely). Grandchildren, Takara, Shawn Delaney and Shania. Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of loved ones and special friends who loved her dearly. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 22, 2020, from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton.
