Winter Weather Advisory until midnight: Freezing rain causes slick conditions

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through midnight as freezing rain is causing slick and potentially hazardous conditions.

However, the weather advisory has expired for Butler and Warren counties.

Slick spots will remain a concern after the steady freezing rain and wintry mix leaves the area, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Light and spotty precipitation will move in through the evening.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reported this afternoon that it had more than 200 crews out monitoring and treating roads across Southwest Ohio. The pavement mainly just looked wet, but with the freezing rain ODOT on social media urged to motorists to use caution, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses.

The NWS earlier this afternoon received multiple reports of sleet and freezing rain in the Dayton region.

The rest of the afternoon and evening will remain cloudy with rain and freezing rain this evening. After midnight any freezing rain switches over to rain with lows in the lower 30s.

Ice accumulation of up to one-tenth inch is possible, according to the NWS.

Skies will be cloudy Tuesday, with a slight chance of rain in the afternoon and highs in the lower 40s. It will be mostly cloudy Tuesday night with a slight chance of rain in the evening. Overnight temperatures will drop to the upper 20s.

It will be mostly cloudy Wednesday with a chance of snow in the afternoon and highs in the mid-30s. A chance of snow continues into the evening. Overnight lows fall to between 15 and 20 degrees. Accumulation should be less than half an inch.

Thursday and Friday afternoon will by sunny with highs expected in the upper 20s on Thursday and the middle 30s on Friday.
