University dedicates new solar panels

Urbana University dedicated new solar panels Friday morning. The university will use the 500 kilowatt solar display to power parts of the campus.

It is the largest solar array on a southwest Ohio college campus.

University leaders said there are 2,000 panels, and will provide one-fifth of the school’s energy needs.

They said the panels are expected to save around $2 million during its 30-year lifespan.

The panels are located near the football field.
