Shots fired reported before crash in Springfield

Police in Springfield are looking for connections between a report of shots fired and a crash Sunday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched around 5 p.m. on a report of shots fired with a car speeding away in the area of South Wittenburg Avenue and West Johnny Lytle Avenue.

Dispatchers said not long after the shots fired report, a crash with injuries was reported at that address.

Police said an initial investigation found a Ford Mustang ran the stop sign at the intersection and slammed into a Chevy Impala.

Two people were injured but only one victim was transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center. The victim’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

No other details were available and both incidents remain under investigation by the Springfield Police Division.
