‘Surf Ohio’ expands to Austin

The iconic “Surf Ohio” T-shirt is getting a transplant to Texas.

Surf Ohio founder Ron Kaplan has partnered with friend and Texas native Curtis Wilson to launch a line of “Surf Austin” apparel, according to a media release.

The duo has launched a new retail website, www.surfaustintees.com, and a special edition “2015 Lake Travis Masters Surfing Classic” T-shirt. Additional Surf Austin logo T-shirts, stickers and other accessories are coming soon.

Kaplan is the enshrinement director at the National Aviation Hall of Fame at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Kaplan promoted the original T-shirt in the mid-1980s by holding the first two “Surf Ohio” bashes at Buckeye Lake. He also presented two “Surf Ohio Festiki” events in Dayton in 2009 and 2010, in collaboration with the Fraternal Order of Moai.
