Springfield seeks feedback on proposed South Limestone project

The City of Springfield will be hosting an online discussion centered around proposed improvements to South Limestone Street.

The goal of the virtual event is to share details about the project that will impact sections of the street that are between Interstate 70 and John Street, according to a news release from the city.

Another goal is to elicit feedback from the community, while adhering to social distance guidelines, the news release stated.

The online discussion as well as other project information can be accessed at springfieldohio.gov/limestone-project. Comments can be made regarding the plan through Jan. 12.

“The City of Springfield welcomes your questions or comments regarding the project. Comments are requested by Jan. 12 to ensure they may be considered in the project development,” the news release said.

Comments may also be submitted by contacting City Engineer Leo Shanayda by calling 937-525-5800 or sending an email at lshanayda@springfieldohio.gov.

City officials said in the news release that the purpose of the project is to make South Limestone Street “a safer transportation corridor that serves as a gateway to Springfield for pedestrians and motorists, while fostering economic development in the region.”

They also added that South Limestone Street would remain open during construction, but some lanes would be closed while the improvements were built.

The proposed project aims to install a raised median from Leffel Lane to John Street as well as install left turn loons at the Leffel Lane and John Street intersections. A loon is defined as a widened location near an intersection so that vehicles can make U-Turns from the left turn lane.
