Springfield police are investigating a weekend shots fired incident.

Officers responded around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday to the 200 block of South Race Street in reference to shots fired into a house, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they spoke with the occupants of the house.

“(The victim) advised that he and his wife and his two sons were upstairs sleeping when they heard what sounded like projectiles striking their house,” the report said.

Officers observed several holes in the front of the house, as well as four spent projectiles from inside the home, the report said.

Officers also found 10 spent shell casings and one unspent casing in the street next to two vehicles in front of the 600 block of West Jefferson Street.

According to the report, the victim said they have not had any problems with anyone and do not believe they were the target.

No injuries were reported.

No suspect or witness information was available, and Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
