Springfield Police and Fire Divisions are investigating two fires as arson.

Officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Monday to the 600 block of Tibbetts Avenue on a report of “a cocktail being thrown at the residence and catching the window on fire,” according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they talked to neighbor who reported the fire, which already had been put out.

“(The neighbor) stated that he observed a 5-foot-5 male approximately 250 pounds in the area wearing a orange flannel jacket. He stated that he did not actually see this male throw anything at the residence but reported that he was in the area at the same time,” the report stated.

Police also talked with the resident of the home who said she has issues with people in town, but she’s not sure who would have done this.

The house only had damage to the front first floor window and frame, according to the report.

A short time before this incident, officers were dispatched around midnight to the 1600 block of Morgan Street to assist with a report of a home on fire, according to a Springfield police report.

The fire department was able to get the fire under control, and the battalion chief called police to take photos, “believing this incident to be a potential arson.”

The fire was believed to have started in the living room of the residence, the report stated.

No other information related to the fire was available.

No suspect information was available for either incident, and Springfield Police and Fire Divisions continue their investigations.
