“Anytime an organized athletic team advances in playoffs, it brings excitement and a new level of school spirit. Springfield football has worked hard to represent our community at the state level. The district is proud of our football team, cheerleaders, band, coaches and fans for their dedication and drive for excellence,” said Superintend Bob Hill.
Those participating in the send-off are asked to line the path of the exit route as the team leaves the high school, wear a mask and social distance.
“This year, we have seen new OHSAA regulations, which take planning, resources and mental strength and preparedness by everyone involved. The 2020 Wildcats just celebrated a Regional Championship and we look forward to cheering them on in the Semi-finals Friday night in Piqua," Hill said.
Springfield, the No. 3 seed in Division I, Region 2, beat No. 4 Powell Olentangy Liberty on Oct. 30, making it Springfield’s second regional championship in a row.
The winner of this state semifinal game will play Mentor or Pickerington Central in the state championship game on at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Fortress Obetz on the south side of Columbus.
