Springfield police are investigating after a man was reportedly shot while sitting in his vehicle at a red light.

Officers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to the 900 block of South Tecumseh Road in reference to a man who had been shot in the city but was at this location, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, they were able to speak to the victim who said he and his girlfriend were stopped at a red light, with no cars next to them, on South Bechtle Avenue and West High Street when he was shot.

The gunshot victim told police he and his girlfriend were sitting at the red light and they were looking down when they heard several shots being fired.

“When hearing the shots, he advised he did not think anyone was shooting at him until he felt the pain in his left knee where he had been stuck,” the report stated. “He then laid down in the seat and fled the area heading west down West High Street.”

The victim said he drove while his girlfriend called police. They ended up at George Rodgers Clark Park where they flagged down park rangers, the report stated.

The victim was taken to Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek, where he was treated for a minor gunshot wound to his left knee and released.

Officers also found the vehicle to be struck by gunfire at least five times.

No suspect or witness information was available.

Springfield police continue their investigation.
