Prisoner who escaped Wilmington hospital in custody

John McKinney is in custody, according to the Wilmington Police Department Facebook page.

“We wish to thank everyone for their assistance and patience during the incident,” the post says.

UPDATE @ 3:36 p.m. (Sept. 5):

Police said a man that escaped police custody from a Wilmington hospital Sunday stole a car and fled the area of the hospital.

Officers are looking for a 2003 grey Lincoln LS with Ohio license plat DNS8336, according to Wilmington police.

John McKinney is wanted by police and anyone with information is asked to call police at 937-382-3833.

“Our current focus is on finding McKinney and bringing this incident to close without harm to the public, law enforcement, or John McKinney,” the department posted on Facebook.

INITIAL REPORT:

Miami Valley jurisdictions have been warned to be on the lookout for a prisoner out of Wilmington who escaped from a hospital last night.

John McKinney escaped custody while at Clinton Memorial Hospital just after 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the Wilmington Police Department Facebook page.

“He was wearing black and white stripe jail issued clothing,” the Facebook post says. “He took several blankets with him and may use them to cover his clothing. Anyone who may have observed McKinney during this time period is encouraged to contact WPD. Anyone who provides assistance to McKinney is aiding an escaped prisoner and will be prosecuted for their involvement.”

If you have information about McKinney, Wilmington police have asked that you call 911 immediately.
